Memphis Botanic Garden was designated in 2012 as
Tennessee Urban Forestry Council’s first Center of Excellence!
The Center of Excellence program was designed to enhance urban forestry at regional sites throughout the state. The goal is to assist with arboretum development and certification, provide ongoing educational programs, and give citizens a local resource for arboriculture.
Center of Excellence sites will:
Maintain the highest level of arboretum certification.
Have a certified arborist.
Have a designated “tree team.”
Provide at least four education programs annually, devoted to arboriculture and urban forestry.
Assist TUFC with certification of arboretums in the region.
Serve as a resource to the community for tree information and education.
Promote urban forestry within the area.
