Hyde & Seek Prehistoric Plant Trail #mbgprehistoric
The Prehistoric Plant Trail is a child-centered play area that is reminiscint of prehistoric times. There are dinosaur statues, chunks of faux-fossilized wood, a stone cave, a sand pit for uncovering fossils, and a simple play structure. Planted in the area are plants that have been around since prehistoric times, such as: ferns, palms, magnolias, a Luster Leaf Holly, Dawn Redwood, the largest leaf Ginko and a Sequoia Tree!
This area also houses the largest concentration of our Fern Collection. The Memphis Fern Society donated and planted the ferns in this area, and volunteers from the society help maintain it.
In 2007 Memphis Stone and Gravel Company donate a large piece of petrified wood to serve as an educational artifact for our visitors.
Come and enjoy this shady location near bathrooms and a water fountain. Be sure to bring the bug spray! True to prehistoric times, this area of the garden also features mosquitos.
