Holly Collection #mbghollyhike
Memphis Botanic Garden's Holly Collection is one of the most extensive found in any public garden. Barbara Taylor, past President of the International Holly Society and designer at Taylor Landscapes, donated her entire Holly Collection to MBG in 1997 which marked the beginning of our collection. Barbara Taylor continues to actively donate new specimens when she comes across one we don't have. Our collection boasts a varietal semi-weeping sport discovered by Barbara that she named "Memphis Belle". Our collection contains all of the major species and many cultivars available in the trade, as well as some rare and unusual selections.
In December of each year, visitors are encouraged to "take a Holly Hike," a self-paced walking tour with an informational map, to discover some of these striking treasures that often go unnoticed. The Holly Collection is spread out along the back perimeter of the 96 acres beyond the Butterfly Garden. There are no specific paths so it's recommended to use our Holly Hike Map when touring the Hollies!
