The Buzz

Get ready for a great year at Live at the Garden!

Wow!  It’s hard to believe that we just announced our 12th season line-up for Live at the Garden.

This year has been particularly hard to keep secret because we have all been so excited about it around here. The process of putting together 5 great shows is not as easy as one might think, but, somehow in the end, it all seems to come together. I know I’m the Co-Director of the series and all, but honestly, it is just my most favorite thing to do during the summer in Memphis!

I can’t think of a better way to kick off the season this year than with Chicago June 16th (and yes, it is a Saturday in the park!)  They were here in 2007 and are so much fun in concert; high energy and hit after hit after hit. I actually think they sound better today than back in the early years.

Seal on July 27th ... all I can say is that if you do not have his new cd, Soul 2, stop what you are doing and go and get it now!  I have it in my car and play it over and over again. I’m addicted, there I said it.  And his cover of Let’s Stay Together I’m sure has made our own Reverend Al Green very proud.

Duran Duran  on August 17th...REALLY??? I still can’t believe it.  Simon Le Bon, HERE, in Memphis, on the Live at the Garden stage! I don’t get star struck very often but I’m already day-dreaming about this one. Ladies, you know what I mean!

Lynyrd Skynyrd on August 31st will be an awesome show for those of us who are still here Labor Day weekend and not off yachting in the south of France. I had forgotten how many unbelievable great songs they have done. Yes, I know , there’s Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama, but what about Gimme Back My Bullets, Simple Man, Tuesday’s Gone?  Classic Southern Rock...this is gonna be THE party to be at, people!

Then, Bonnie Raitt on October 5th.  For several years, now I’ve repeatedly heard two things: "Why don’t you guys have a fall concert?" and "When is Bonnie Raitt coming back?" Well, here you go! For those of you who didn’t see this soulful diva last time she was here in 2006, don’t mess around and miss it this time! A  beautiful fall evening in Memphis and one of my all time favorite songs, I Can’t Make You Love just does not get much better than that folks!

So, there you have it! I know I say this every year, but this is my favorite year, and it's gonna be awesome! So brush off those picnic baskets and lawn chairs and get ready to rock! From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for continuing to come out and support what we do at Live. I can't wait to see you ALL this summer in the Garden!
