Conifer Garden #mbgconifergarden
This collection of cone-bearing and needled evergreens make up a showcase of conifers that do well in the Mid-south but are rare in this area. Paul Kingsley planted the original collection of conifers in 1981 around an existing Contorted Eastern White Pine, and that area became known as the Conifer Garden. In 2009, Senior Manager of Gardens Chris Cosby began curating plant collections at MBG. He added many new conifers throughout the 96 acres and they are all part of the Conifer Collection.
You can access the original Conifer Garden through the Rose Garden, where there is a mailbox holding a brochure put out by the American Conifer Society. You may also enjoy this original collection while in My Big Backyard. The most popular tree in this collection is the Weeping Atlas Cedar situated on the edge of My Big Backyard.
