This week the volunteers chose Salvia greggii "Wild Thing" as their plant of the week.

"Wild Thing" is a chance seedling collected from the wild.  It is vibrant pink instead of red and hardier than the species.
Salvia greggii is a hummingbird magnet and an evergreen perennial that prefers full sun and soil on the dry side.

It blooms from May until October, but often you'll have sporadic flowers throughout the winter.
Occasional shearing improves flowering.
We have some beautiful ones for sale now at the Visitor's Center.
