Summer Colors

They give us those nice bright colors,
They give us the greens of summer,
Make’s you think all the world’s a sunny day…”

Paul Simon was talking about his Nikon camera and his Kodachrome film, but every time I hear the song, I think of summer color.  There are so many options…
Annuals:  Color from the time you plant them until frost kills them. So much color for so little cost.
Perennials:  Shorter bloom periods than annuals, but plant them once, plant many varieties and have color all season.  Plus, you can divide some, some self-seed and some spread like wildfire. The only problem with perennials is finding the space to put the next one you fall in love with.
Tropicals:  Season long blooms, large and abundant flowers and vibrant colored foliage on many.  You can winter them over in the house or garage and keep them for many years. In the shade or sun, planted or in pots, colorful flowers, tropical foliage, choices limited only by…
