Playhouse Lane in My Big Backyard has a new neighbor! Our brand new Little Free Library, designed and constructed by volunteer Bob Hathaway, is located just off the path between Conifer Corner and the Ever After House, capping the western edge of Playhouse Lane. This location is convenient to the Story Circle, as well as our hammock swings, which are perfect spots to spend a few quiet moments with a good book.
The Little Free Library movement has recently caught on in Memphis, and these quirky little houses have popped up all over the city in churches, parks and even residential front yards. You can find a nationwide listing and map on their website, littlefreelibrary.org, along with information on starting your own!
The concept is simple: take a book, keep it as long as you like, then return it to any Little Free Library. You can also donate your own books by leaving them in any Little Free Library. We look forward to seeing the great titles that have graced the shelves in our visitors' homes!
Genius idea! Installing such libraries in streets of your small town brings it more charm. Cool! Neighbors can meet together to build such libraries in a creative way: they all can have different designs and outlooks like your own house, which makes them even more special. It could be interesting to put inside of read books lists with readers review for neighbors to know what they will like and what is not their thing after reading review. Plus it's not only promoting reading but if the review is signed you will know what to talk about with your neighbors and probably how to make friends with them!
