This week's "Volunteer Pick of the Week" is Indian Pink or Spigelia marilandica. This is a beautiful shade to part shade native perennial that grows in moist woodland conditions but tolerates dry shade and goes well with Hosta, Columbine and Heuchera.
It grows in clumps, 15" to 24" tall, and blooms profusely in late spring and periodically throughout the season.
Deadheading promotes re-bloom, but it self seeds so don't deadhead after July. This is a hummingbird magnet and a favorite of butterflies.
We will have some available at our Fall Plant Sale, October 7th in the Nursery at the Garden.
