Incognito 2016 - Silent Art Auction and Gala

January 29  5:30-8:00pm          Buy tickets here!

Every January we have an art auction to raise funds for the great programming at MBG. The auction and gala are called Incognito because the artwork is not labeled with artist's names. You bid on art you love, not who the artist is, and the artists come to the gala in various incognito disguises— it's fun! The event is catered with a full cash bar (you get two free drink tickets and a bid number with the purchase of your ticket) and this year, live guitar music by Ian Shapiro. Our special auction MC is the great Kacky Walton, the voice of "Checking On The Arts" - WKNO radio. Kacky really knows how to talk about art so we're extra thrilled she'll be narrating the evening for us!

This year we set-out to forge new connections in the Memphis art community through this fundraiser and also to curate a show that would have a cohesive theme celebrating what the botanic garden is all about. We chose "A Sense of Place" for our theme and invited artists from Memphis Urban Sketchers and Plein Air Memphis. The show is a success! Each artist thought about a natural place in the Mid-South that could inspire their piece yet you will find the show has a huge variety of imagery and mediums, each piece unique. This year the gala will be extra special because many of the artists have written a little background story describing their inspiration for the piece. They are so lovely and sentimental and really give the artwork even more meaning. The show really is a celebration of the beautiful natural places that are in our Mid-South!

Please join us, or if you can't make it to the party make sure to come and see the show which is only up through January 29. Each piece will go home with one lucky bidder that night...will it be you?
