It is that time of year again! Time to get outside, enjoy some of the many wonderful things our city has to offer, and time for the Forrest Spence 5K! For ten years, Memphis has supported the Forrest Spence Fund; a fund that was founded by Brittany and David Spence in memory of their infant son, Forrest. Raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide for the non-medical needs of critically and chronically ill children and their families, the Fund is an essential source of good in the mid-south.
For the second year, the Forrest Spence 5K will be hosted by The Memphis Botanic Garden. The Garden is a beautiful setting so many families enjoy through the entire year. Unfortunately, many children are not able to enjoy an afternoon in this beautiful place because of the financial hardships and emotional stress that often accompany caring for a very sick child. Thankfully, the Forrest Spence Fund exists to ease those burdens for so many families. The Forrest Spence Fund and the Memphis Botanic Garden offer solace for the heart and soul.
The Forrest Spence Fund and the Memphis Botanic Garden are perfect partners. Not only can families enjoy the beauty of the gardens, the fun of My Big Backyard, and the community of Memphis, they can support a wonderful cause. The race takes place on Saturday, August 26th at 8:00 a.m. and will include a one mile family fun run, 100 yard dash for younger children, as well as a myriad of other fun, family friendly activities. So, if you are looking for something fun to do this Saturday, plan to make it a day at the Botanic Garden.
