Delta Heritage Garden

The Delta Heritage Garden honors our region’s history of self-sufficiency and our relationships with plants, demonstrating how traditional horticulture is applicable and informative in today’s sustainable agriculture and gardening practices. Plants indicative of the South tell the story, including vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

If you’ve walked through the gardens recently, you may have noticed that the Delta Heritage Garden has nearly doubled in size, with thanks to a generous donation from the Knapp Foundation. This is the first step in the development plan for this garden, which continues to seek funding further expand the garden’s visual impact and educational reach in the coming years.

This year, though, we are looking forward to growing an array of tasty crops, including tomatoes, okra, peppers, southern peas, cotton, sorghum, basil, sunflowers, and more! A new volunteer group has been formed to support these endeavors. This group will meet every third Friday of the month from 3:30 to 5:00 pm for the duration of the growing season, anyone interested in getting their hands dirty, learning about edible gardening, and maybe taking home some locally-grown produce, is welcome to join! Feel free to email for more information about this volunteer opportunity.
