American Conifer Society Honors Memphis Botanic Garden

The Memphis Botanic Garden is now home to one of only four Conifer Reference Gardens in the state of Tennessee. The Conifer Collection, established in 1981, and updated in 2002, has been recently groomed, labeled and mapped, by a diligent team of volunteers led by MBG Adult Education Coordinator Laurie Williams. This Collection consists of approximately 300 individual plants and includes 100 different species.

In order to be certified as a reference collection, the conifer garden has to meet American Conifer Society requirements that include being an institutional ACS member, open to the public, and have a minimum of 30 conifers representing at least 8 genera, labeled, in its collection.

The Conifer Reference Garden now serves as an educational resource for both professionals and home gardeners living in the area.
