Well, the calendar might say we are still in winter, but nature itself is telling us that spring is on it’s way. The days are getting longer and the plants (the ones that long stretch of very cold temperatures we had didn’t damage!) are beginning their growth overdrive. This is the time for pruning and grooming. It is so very nice to cut back last year’s dead growth from the herbaceous perennials and see the new green growth hiding below. The Ketchum Memorial Garden

Morgan C. Ketchum and Marion P. Kirkland met while attending Vanderbilt University. Miss Kirkland was the only women in her graduating class of 1898. She studied English Literature and German Philology. Her uncle was the chancellor there and he enjoyed hybridizing irises.  A painting and photo on Vanderbilt’s website show Chancellor J.H.
