Weekly on Wednesday

memphis botanic garden map

This weekly, seven-month commitment starts Wednesday April 11th and continues every Wednesday through the end of October.  A team of 3 volunteers will be trained by MBG Horticulturist Carson Ellis to record data on the monarch populations supported by our Butterfly Garden.

Volunteers will learn to identify plants in the garden, and will learn to recognize the life stages of monarch butterflies. After three training sessions, working directly with Carson, volunteers will be expected to work with limited assistance to record data and transcribe it to the Monarch Joint Venture website.

At the end of the season (starting in September), volunteers will receive additional training in tagging monarchs, and will assist in netting and tagging migrating butterflies.  T
