May 1 – June 30. Color and Light - Nature's Gifts by Steve Nelson. On display in Fratelli’s Café, Monday – Saturday, 11 am – 1 pm. Steve’s interest in art began in elementary school, copying cartoons from newspapers. He majored in art at Beloit College in the late 50s/ early 60s but found the professors were more interested in “doing their own thing” than teaching. He wisely decided art probably would not be a sustainable career for him and chose to wait for retirement years to give it another try. He is now 12 years into painting and having a ball exploring a wide variety of styles and subjects. He has studied acrylic painting with Marilyn Wannamaker and Judy Nocifora at the Memphis Botanic Garden. His style is loose and impressionistic and his goal is to entice the viewer to imagine being in the scene to feel its majesty, its serenity, its contrast, or its energy. His work has been exhibited at the Memphis Botanic Garden, the Salvation Army Kroc Center, Trezevant Manor, the Jewish Home, Germantown Library, and the Women’s Exchange. He is a member of the Memphis/Germantown Art League and has been juried into several of their shows. For information please contact Steve at 901-484-3849 or More art can be viewed at
