Explore the magic of dyeing with natural indigo. Learn how indigo works and explore some different resist techniques using rubber bands, stitching, rocks, or poles (or just make it solid blue).

We’ll supply 2 dishtowels for you to dye, but indigo is addicting, so you’re welcome to bring something else to dye. Indigo works best with natural fibers-cotton, linen, wool, silk. Items need to be no larger than what you can hold in two hands (no comforters please!). Michael’s, JoAnn’s and Hobby Lobby have a ‘dyeables’ section with white        t-shirts, aprons, bags, hats etc. Other potential dyeables include socks, dishtowels, pillowcases, fabric, canvas tennis shoes, cotton clothesline, wool or cotton yarn) . Any item you bring will dye better if it has been washed.

Please do not bring anything that is acrylic, polyester, spandex, lycra, or nylon. We’ll have a few extra dyeables available for purchase. Blue will be your new favorite color! Attendees need to wear clothes that can get stained, as well as close-toed shoes that can get stained. Bring dishwashing gloves and a few plastic bags to bring your dyed items home.

Class size is limited to 10 people. all 901-636-4128 for more information or to register. $45 MBG members/$60 non-members.
