The Gardens - The Urban Orchard: Trees for Teaching
In 1996, a grant from the National Tree Trust allowed us to establish The Urban Orchard: “Trees for Teaching.” Members of the Garden’s horticulture and education staff worked with Master Gardener and local expert Bill Colvard to select a variety of dwarf fruit trees and other plants appropriate for the home gardener. With the loving care of the Memphis Area Master Gardeners, the Urban Orchard has flourished, offering a wonderful illustration of what you can do in an urban environment, even a small back yard.

The Orchard features a variety of berries, persimmons, plums, vegetables, figs, apples, and peaches, as well as a herbs, perennials and antique roses. The Urban Orchard is located up the hill from the Japanese Garden.
