Youth & School Programs - Birthday Parties
Big Backyard Birthday Party
These parties take place in our new children’s garden. Your group meets in the Guest House for a garden-themed craft project. A staff member will give guests an overview of the 16 areas in My Big Backyard, then you can explore and discover lots of fun in this 2 ½ acre garden. Adult supervision is required ; we strongly recommend a 1:2 adult/child ratio.
Fee: MBG Members $375/non-members $400
Includes: 3-hour rental of Guest House, Garden
admission for up to 15 children and adult chaperones, (additional child/parent $6 per pair) party greeter, take-home project for each guest, and logo t-shirt for the birthday child.
Backyard Tent Celebration
Host your own group play day in the garden by reserving our party canopy. Adult supervision is required; we strongly recommend a 1:2 adult/child ratio.
Fee: MBG Members $75/non-members $100 plus Garden admission for all children and their parents upon entry.
Includes: 2-hour canopy rental and logo t-shirt for the birthday child.
All birthday parties and special events in My Big Backyard are by reservation only. Out of consideration for other guests, groups wishing to picnic must do so in the Pine Grove picnic area or other suitable location in the Garden.
Botanical Birthday Theme Parties
These parties take place in one of the rooms in the Garden’s
Visitors Center. Although the parties do not include Garden
admission, they do include a guided visit to one of our garden
areas relating to the party theme.
Fee: MBG Members $275/non-members $300
Includes: 3-hour room rental, party instructor, 1 hour of
activities and take-home crafts for up to 15 children.
($6 per additional child)
Jungle Journey
Be an official Jungle Explorer! Decorate your own
adventure hat then go on safari to our tropical plant collection where you will get to taste some treats of the rainforest. Afterwards, you and your friends will get to take home your own tropical plant!
Dino-Mite-Party-Saurus
Stomp through our Prehistoric Plant Trail! Go on a dinosaur hunt and find your own little dino friend. Then make your dino a new home by planting a prehistoric landscape and make a lasting impression by creating your own fossil.
Flower-Power Hour
Have a groovy time at this party while you make a psychedelic tie-dyed t-shirt. We’ll take a walk through the garden to check out fragrant plants for our scented sachets. Each participant also gets to decorate a “peace” pot and plant some far-out flower seeds.
Royal Party
Your guests will feel like royalty pretending to be a prince or princess. You and your friends will create your own crown, and treasure box, then march outside in a Royal Parade to find nature’s treasure!
Seijaku-En Shindig
Travel through our beautiful Japanese Garden of Tranquility. We will make colorful koi windsocks and decorate a
Japanese fan. Your guests will say “Domo Arigato” (thank you) for all the fun they’ve had at your party.
Fairy Fantasy
Sprinkle on your pixie dust and escape to a Fairy Fantasy! You and your friends will search for fairies in the Garden, create your very own flower fairy and make magical pixie dust necklaces.
Pirate Adventure
Ahoy Matey! Create your own pirate hat, then join your friends on a Treasure Hunt through the Garden! Decorate your own treasure box and fill it with your newly discovered loot.
Jungle Journey

If you have an idea for a party that is not listed, we can
design a program to suit your needs. Fees for custom
parties start at $400.
For all parties, you provide food, decorations,
plates, cups, etc., as well as supervision of children.
Your 3-hour rental includes set-up and clean-up time.
Time blocks are normally 9:30 am-12:30 pm or 1:30-4:30 pm.
In case of inclement weather, indoor activities may be
substituted for Big Backyard and Botanical Birthday
Theme Parties, but not for the Backyard Tent Celebration.
All parties require $100 non-refundable deposit to schedule.
