Last week our Education Department took Outreach to a whole new level. Educators Julie Baltz (aka “Inspector Nectar”) and Drew Massengale (aka “Flavor Flores”) boarded a plane and headed for the Big Apple to present their engaging classroom lessons to a group of 3rd & 4th graders at P.S. 56 in Brooklyn. Luckily I was able to tag along as an assistant. It was a magical experience to see the little faces light up when they met the living characters they’d been studying and playing games with online at mybotanicplanet.com. Our partnership with TruGreen has resulted in an extremely cool and educational website that allows students all over the world to experience botanical lessons featuring the same characters we present to classrooms in Memphis. And thanks to this national contest they sponsored, we were able to reach a whole new group of students. We were glad the winning school was in Brooklyn because it gave us the opportunity to visit two world-class gardens…Brooklyn Botanic Garden and The New York Botanical Garden…where we met educators and visited their children’s gardens gathering a ton of great ideas.
Thanks TruGreen for your continued support of MBG’s educational efforts!
